Acquire, Day 20

This was our last full day of therapy (tomorrow is a half day here, with a half day of testing at the clinic) and it went really great. Maddy was in a great mood and she's really excited to play with 'two hands'. It's like a whole new world to her!

She practiced dressing her doll, Maggie Lee.

And she played with her flashlight in the closet. (BTW, an Alabama closet is the same size as a guest room in Massachusetts!)

But by far, the most fun she had was cooking with two hands. As far as she's concerned, learning how to cook with two hands was the whole reason we came to Alabama in the first place!

When the cast came off, Reggi warned us that it might be hard for Maddy to separate the movement of her right hand from that of her left hand (reciprocal movement) but so far she really hasn't had trouble with that. She's been able to handle having two very different jobs for each hand. Like holding a bag with her left and pulling letters off the fridge with her right hand.

Or holding a marble with her left hand and picking it up with her right hand.

This month has exceeded my wildest expectations, I'm so excited about what Maddy has accomplished. Now, we need to focus on incorporating these new skills into Maddy's everyday life.

One more day and then we're coming home!
