Misc Summer

Summer always seems to fly by and we never quite do everything. Maddy was SO busy, at Piers Park from morning to evening everyday. Audrey and I got into a nice routine involving Dr Who every morning with breakfast. And then she had sailing every afternoon.

I always look forward to spending summer evenings on the pier watching Twilight Sailing but unfortunately Audrey didn't make it there very often this summer because it conflicted with some writing workshops she was doing. But we had one beautiful night!

At the end of the writing workshops Audrey participated in a "Story Slam". She did awesome! And then the moderator convinced Bob to tell a story too, the one about his ill-fated kayaking trip with Maddy that marooned them on an uninhabited harbor island. It was a great story and he told it well. (Turns out he would test positive for COVID a couple days later so maybe he was just feverish!)

And....speaking of COVID,  Audrey caught it too even though Bob quarantined as best as he could. Luckily she didn't get nearly as sick as Bob, but it sure threw our plans into disarray. Audrey had to miss her N-10 Open Regatta and we had to postpone Grandma's visit. Oh well. At least the guidance for dealing with COVID are a lot more relaxed than in the height of the pandemic. Five days of isolating....then its ok to have beach day.

And luckily, Maddy never caught it so she could still go on her overnight on board the Dennis Sullivan. And she scored yet MORE Piers Park swag because it was so cold! I think one overnight on a tall ship was enough for Maddy. All she could talk about was how gross the bathrooms were!

Audrey was out of quarantine for her last week of sailing so she could do all the fun end-of-year activities like the Olympics (she won gold!) going to Georges Island.

Funny enough, both girls were on Georges Island at the same time, though I suspect the Piers Park kids were a little more civilized than the CPYC kids who were running amok with flashlights, playing "Outbreak".

At the beginning of the summer, we always think that there will be lots and lots of beach days, but then the summer gets away from us and we end up only having one or two. But luckily the day we picked had great surf!

I think both kids had a great summer!
