Chicago

We had a really nice week in Chicago and Wisconsin!

We flew in on Saturday afternoon, checked into our hotel and then Christian picked us up in his fancy electric car and show us his neighborhood.

After a classic Christian walk (too fast and longer than expected) he and Thanh treated us to an amazing dinner at an Israeli restaurant.

On Sunday we had tickets to see the Cubs, so after a morning in the pool we took the train to Wrigley Field. It was really fun and we even had a view of some planes flying over for the Chicago Air and Water Show.

Wrigley Field is pretty close to where my cousin Kelsey lives, so we met her and Carson for dinner afterwards. They took us to have a shrimp boil and I discovered that Hurricanes are my new favorite drink!

On Monday our agenda was Millennium Park, the Art Institute and an evening architectural boat tour.

Obligatory Bean photos.

American Gothic, Carroll style

Joseph Cornell boxes are my favorite things at the Institute.

We needed an afternoon snack before the boat tour, so obviously we had to try Stan's Donuts, the fancy donut chain we saw everywhere. (quick review: the donuts looked better than they tasted. Tourist trap! We should have known better!)

The boat tour with took with the Architecture Foundation was fantastic!

Afterwards, we stayed in the river area and had some tacos in the shadow of a building that was clearly very impressive to the kids. We also found some gelato along the river. It was a very full but great day!

The only thing on Tuesday's agenda was to see Adler Planetarium (a request from our future astro-physicist) and maybe the Field Museum so we took a train (+ a long walk) to the Museum Campus. The Adler Planetarium was really fun!

Unfortunately our energy pooped our before we could make it to the Field Museum and we saw a chance for a water taxi boat ride back to downtown so we took it!

Dinner at Etta on a recommendation from Kelsey. Excellent pizza!

And then an evening walk back around the Bean to find some souvenirs.

Favorite souvenir of the trip so far...creepy baby hand. (11 year olds like inexplicable things...)

Wednesday's agenda, the Museum of Science and Industry with Aunt Katie and Levi.

For our last night in Chicago we kept it simple....a swim in the rooftop pool, lobby Chipotle and a walk to Eataly for dessert.

Danke Schön Chicago, we had a great time!

Thursday agenda, get a rental car from O'Hare drive to Wisconsin, spend the afternoon at the Milwaukee Art Museum.

This museum is probably the coolest building I've ever seen in person!

Realist art that is just a little too creepy.

After the museum we drove to Lake Geneva where we were staying at Timber Ridge Lodge, a hotel with an indoor water park! In other words, payment for all the art and architecture we are making the kids see this week!

It was super fun, they even convinced me to tube down the water slide and we all had a blast!

Adult beverages by the Lazy River.

Friday's agenda, a trip to Racine Wisconsin to see the Johnson Wax Campus (and more water-sliding later, obviously!)

It was a great week!
