July 4th is something we never really celebrated when I was growing up, but I've grown to love all fun events around the Fourth, which always feels like the official start to the summer. However, this year, in the throes of a pandemic it was hard not to feel a little depressed as we're missing fireworks, parades pool parties and block parties. So we had a different kind of 4th. No fireworks, but we finished our hallway project! And we still socialized, just in a socially distant way.
Sorry your all the fun parts of summer are cancelled, Maddy, but you can still paint!
Social distancing doesn't mean that Audrey and Kai can't be roof climbing hooligans.
Putting finish (and allowing drying time, especially when COVID means that your options for leaving the house are limited) Mostly the planning involved cat management and pee management (for cats and humans). Cats and people had to move around the house in an unusual way, that the cats found especially perplexing. (Thank goodness for a porch that runs the whole length of the front of the house!)
While the floor was drying, we had another socially distant gathering in the Aresty's back yard. They ordered delicious fried chicken, but the really big news is that MADDY TRIED WATERMELON. Stop the presses. And she LIKED IT. Not that she wants to eat it again.
For the conclusion of our July 4th weekend, we watched Hamilton, promptly bought the soundtrack right afterwards and have listened to it about a bajillion times. That may become a new July 4th tradition!
It wasn't exactly a "normal" holiday weekend, but it was still pretty nice. And we have a lovely new hallway!
