Everything was going swimmingly until we got stuck in Chicago for six hours due to a maintenance problem and lots of bad weather pretty much everywhere.
Audrey says, "Will we ever escape this pit of despair?"
We FINALLY made it...just in time to go to bed!
On Monday, we had plans to visit the Kentucky Horse Park, but unfortunately the weather didn't cooperate, so we went bowling instead.
Then we had dinner at Melinda's house with her and Regina and the kids. It was so great to get a "bonus" visit with everyone!
Unfortunately, Jody had to work so she couldn't have dinner with us. Obviously that meant we were obligated to go to her place of work and create a ruckus.
Before we came down to Kentucky, Audrey had mentioned that her favorite thing about Grandma and Grandfather's house was seeing Toby and Tonka. She wasn't kidding. She spent every spare moment playing with them!
On Tuesday, we took the kids' second tour of Mammoth Cave, the Domes and Dripstones Tour. The guide gave us a long cautionary talk about how challenging the steps were and how narrow some of the passages were...and Audrey immediately turned me and said, "This is going to be AWESOME!!"
It was awesome!
Afterward all that walking, we were ready to have some spaghetti with Uncle Charlie.
On our last day there, we had a relaxing morning...more time roaming around with Toby and Tonka.
Then lunch (and pie!) with Aunt Sue and Uncle Robert in Bardstown.
Then on to Bernheim Forest to see the Forest Giants.
It was great that Uncle Charlie could meet up with us and walk around to see two of the three giants!
The kids took turns sitting in a wooden throne.
Audrey made it clear what kind of monarch she would be!
The giants were really fun to see. We're already making a plan to go back and take Bob to see them the next time we visit.
For our last dinner, Grandfather made us some "chicken-on-the-bone".
It was a great visit, though the travel delays did begin to wear on us! We'd thought our six-hour delay going to Kentucky would entitle us to an uneventful trip home, but we were WRONG!
It was still a great trip! So nice to see Kentucky in the spring for a change!
