Thanksgiving Weekend, Part 2

After we digested all that Thanksgiving turkey we had a surprise for the kids on Friday morning. Their instructions were to put on their Christmas PJs, we're going on a road trip!I had so much fun being cryptic and watching their confused faces.

Smarty-pants-Maddy, who can read road signs, quickly figured out that we were going north to New Hampshire.

We arrived in New Hampshire a couple hours earlier than I was planning on, which created a dilemma. Do we go sit in a hotel room and wait for our event, or walk around a NH State park looking like Christmas fools? We did the latter, of course!

Sorry for making you look silly, kids. But look at the nice photo we got at The Basin!

Soon it was time for our reason for coming to New Hampshire: A Journey to the North Pole! The kids were super excited.

After a short train ride we arrived at the "North Pole".

There was a reading of T'was the Night Before Christmas and then a visit from the big guy.

Audrey wanted a high five so badly from Santa but unfortunately he didn't cooperate. (This Santa is on my naughty list, boo Santa.)

On the way out, the kids dropped off letter to Santa at the North Pole Post Office.

On Saturday, (after a night that I won't soon forgive Audrey for) we took a ride on the Kangamangus Highway. It was a gloomy day, but it's always a gorgeous drive. And with our new scarves (a gift from the Polar Express) Elmo got to travel in style.

We had a nice lunch in North Conway where a fellow diner gave us a tip to drive up to "Cathedral Ledge". The view was stunning.

Then we drove back down and walked around Echo Lake a bit.

Back at the hotel, we managed to squeeze in two more swims in the pool. Not to mention lots of Christmas specials on TV and "Old McDonalds" for dinner. I think the kids are officially spoiled.

We got back home by lunchtime on Sunday and we had one more very important thing to do before the weekend ended... decorate the Christmas tree!

What could be better than Christmas music, a Christmas tree and a nice roaring fire to warm us up?

Audrey and I need to have a little chat about "balance" with regards to spacing out the candy canes.

I think we are in the Christmas spirit now! It was a great weekend!
