Perfect Fall Weekend

We could not have asked for a more beautiful Columbus Day weekend this year! And lucky for us, we got to spend most of it outdoors.

On Saturday, we met the Dibiase's for apple picking at Cider Hill Farm. Aside from a rocky start with a face plant and a bee sting (poor Audrey...) we had a great day! Plenty of apples, hot donuts (we are back to being on the fence about which farm has the superior donuts) and a nice fun run in a corn maze.

On Sunday, we spent the afternoon in the Cahoon's backward celebrating Brianna's (belated) birthday.  (Pastry chef Keely made the cake.)

All these yahoos benefitted from a nice afternoon running around the yard!

On Monday, we took the advice of our friendly librarian and visited a new place in the western part of the state, Fruitlands Museum. Fruitlands was a failed utopian community from the mid 1800's that has become a beautiful campus with a few small museums and walking trails.

We saw some really cool baskets and some beautiful Hudson River School landscape paintings. We also walked up and down this hill about 40 times as we waited to get into the cafe for lunch!

(Still waiting…!)

Finally fed, we explored the Native American museum. They had tons of toys and domestic artifacts that the kids could actually touch which was really nice. And outside, they had a mock up of a Long House that you could walk into...

And a canoe that the kids could sit in.

We also toured the farmhouse where Louisa May Alcott had lived as a little girl before we explored the nature trails.

It was really fun to find a new place to explore!
