Holiday Weekend

We had a really nice Memorial Day weekend. On Saturday we had no plans at all and the weather forecast was perfect so we decided to go down and explore the Roger Williams part and Zoo. Personally, I've been rather zoo'ed out, but I have to admit the Roger Williams zoo was really nice and a lot of fun.

They had several elephants, which Audrey had never seen in real life before.

Yet somehow she was still more impressed with the bugs outside of the elephant habitat!

They also had a pig that looked just like the one from The Lion King and who put on a good show in the mud pit.

And we got to see giraffes really closeup!

This zoo animal is very good at climbing.

And these zoo animals like to watch the swans.

Some zoo animals get a little pouty at times, but who can stay in a bad mood at the zoo?

Being newbies to the zoo, we also decided to walk through the Butterfly Garden.

I'm so glad we did! The butterflies were not afraid of people at all and would land right on you!

This one stayed on my shoulder until I finally shoo'd it away.

So beautiful!

Audrey would have stayed and watched for hours if we could have let her. It was a bug-lovers paradise!

Then Bob took us to do something that he had fond memories of as a kid....swan boats! They were so much fun! I got to ride with Maddy so I got so see her "boat face" close up. Swan boat, houseboat, fast boat, ferry boat...it doesn't matter. Her face always looks like this when she's on the water.

Our 20 minutes were over way too fast!

On Sunday we had a visit from Sig (and Ali, Jeremy and Mary too, I guess).

After Sig got a little restless on the porch, we took him for a walk on the beach. The kids kind of ran around like dogs too. (And Audrey did a fair amount of digging in the sand!)

Summer just feels extra special this year!
