The Very Last Day of Summer Vacation

Maddy's first day of second grade is tomorrow so we decided to have a really awesome last day of summer. I'd promised a beach day...

...but as it turned out, some of the playgroup kids decided to have a beach day as well. It was great to see everyone!

Audrey had one final opportunity to get as much sand into our car as possible.

And we also came home with two "pets." "Sandy" and "Swimmy," Audrey called them. She's truly a lover of all creatures big and small. They were actually spotted on the bottom of the ocean by Maddy with her super-under-water-vision. I'd said we could bring them home but I started to feel guilty that we didn't have the stuff we needed to take care of them. Plus Audrey gave them a little too much attention. It seemed a little cruel, and perhaps even hellish for the poor crabs.

So we trekked back to the beach to set them free. I hope we released them in time for them to have a long, crabby life.

Maddy took her newly souped up bike on the trip to the beach. I'm so proud of how awesome she's riding.

I really think she's caught the biking bug. She really seemed to love it when she got going up to speed!
