Summer Vacation Part Three: Kentucky

For the final leg of our vacation we drove from Norris Lake to Grandma's house, with a quick stop at the old cabin at Lake Cumberland. The house looked exactly like I remembered.

Once we got to Grandma's house, the first order of business was to pay a visit to the Sherwood.

And then get reacquainted with the neighbors dog.

On Friday, somehow I finagled a day of shopping and a pedicure with mom, while Bob and my dad took the kids to The Patton Museum. They had a great time and they love their "What Would Patton Do?" bracelets that Bob got for them.

On Saturday, we had a wedding to go to, cousin Patrick and Elaine were getting married at My Old Kentucky Home. It was a great chance to catch up with lots of family we hadn't seen in ages.

And to take lots of family photos.

After a dinner that involved a bit too much sitting for little people as well as far too few noodles (I definitely started feeling a little grateful that the kids aren't invited to the next wedding we are going to!)...

…we got out and explored the grounds of My Old Kentucky Home.

By the time we got back to the wedding, the band was going and Maddy discovered that weddings are fun after all. There's music (Wagon Wheel!). And dancing. She even got Grandma on the dance floor.

And then I guess Maddy's exuberant moves attracted the attention of another wedding guest. She took a little convincing...

…but he was very persistent. And Maddy impressed me with her moves!

She really had a blast.

Finally, on Sunday, we had one last family event…Grandfather fried some chicken in the hollow and a lot of my aunts, uncles and cousins came out to let their dogs and children run around. It's so nice to just let the kids explore. They don't get to do that often enough.

Monday morning we hit the road again for Massachusetts. It was a great vacation!
