Happy Fifth Birthday Maddy! Your dad and I are so proud of the amazing young lady you are becoming!
All the sudden you seem so grown up! I think having a baby in the house forced us to let you be more independent. Audrey has been kind of a mixed blessing for you, but on the whole I think you like having a little sister. On one hand, she is very interested in ALL YOUR STUFF. You make sure that your door remains closed at all times! But, on the other hand, you get to boss someone else around. And teach her stuff. I think you like having a job to do...you are the official bathroom-door-closer as well an authorized Audrey-head-shampoo'er. And however annoying, you think she is, you are always the first one to want to go see her when she wakes up from her nap. You always check in on her, no matter what you're doing.
I am pleased to report that you still have very eclectic taste in music and entertainment (Mummenschantz, anyone?). Oh sure, you love the standard preschool stuff like Curious George and Yo Gabba Gabba. But all those hours watching old Muppet episodes have given you appreciation for all kinds of music. How many five year olds ask for Ethel Merman or Paul Williams or Peter Sellers by name? If we can keep your mind this open to all kinds of experiences I'll be thrilled!
This year it's been exciting to watch you make friends at school. I love hearing the other kids calling out to you. You are a very popular kid! Even so, you still love to do your own thing...hopefully this well serve you well in middle school when all your friends are getting tattoos and you DON'T!
I know things aren't always easy for you and you have your challenges, but your perseverance is truly amazing. Watching you try and keep up with your classmates at monkey Joe's this week made me so proud of you. Your teachers call you Little Miss Sunshine because of your amazing attitude. You love to lend a hand and you're always there to take the new kid in school under your wing. I hope you never lose that generous spirit.
Happy Birthday Maddy! We can't wait to see what the next year holds for us!
