(Holy cow, what is that SMELL!)
Winter days are so short, but we made great time. We didn't run into any bad weather at all. And right before we stopped for the night, we were rewarded with the most beautiful sunset!
We stopped for the night in Columbus Ohio at a hotel that we selected solely due to it's proximity to a Mellow Mushroom! What a Christmas gift for all of us. (Especially any other diners within earshot of Audrey's singing.)
We took advantage of the hotel pool.
And the free breakfast, complete with mustache cup portraits.
We drove the rest of the way on Christmas Eve, and it was pretty uneventful except for the pea-soup fog between Columbus and Cincinnati.
We made it to Grandma's house by the afternoon of Christmas Eve. Just in time to hang the stockings by the chimney with care.
Santa found us and brought everything the kids wanted.
Luckily they don't ask for much! Audrey can't wait to get her Sphero home to torture the cats with it!
Grandma tried so hard to get out of making Christmas breakfast but this just wasn't her year to change any traditions. At least she had some help.
After breakfast, Audrey received another gift. I told her she could wear shorts ON CHRISTMAS DAY.
Later on in the day, Aunt Paula came.
And then more presents.
Cousins!
Aunt Sue came over for Christmas dinner.
Levi tried to steal Shelby's personal seat but she wasn't having it! It was a great Christmas, nice to have little ones around again!
On the day after Christmas, we took a day trip into Louisville, where I was shocked to see....David? What the heck!?
We walked around, had lunch...
...and then visited the Muhammed Ali Center.
On Friday, we met my UK Architecture friends in Lawrenceburg. No one ended up in the creek this year, so it was a successful day!
On Saturday, we had to say goodbye to Aunt Katie and Levi.
Bob took his obigatory train photos.
Then we drove into Lexington to see the UK / UL ballgame, making a quick pit stop in Bardstown to say hello to uncle Robert (he hadn't been feeling up to Christmas dinner with us.)
Patrick and Heather hosted us for the ballgame, and it was a great game (with a great result!) but some animal lovers preferred the chance to take a ride in the golf cart and go see Magic.
On our last day in Kentucky, we just hung out close to Grandma's house, and saw some movies (Little Women for us, Star Wars for Bob). And then bright and early on Monday we hit the road for home, and made it all the way home in one day! This was definitely the easiest driving trip we've ever had, we're very grateful for all the lack of weather drama!
It was a great trip!
