Labor Day Weekend Part Two: Kitties!

Ever since Audrey could talk she's been begging us for a pet and this weekend, we made her the happiest seven year old on the planet. Earlier in the summer, we'd told her that we'd consider getting a kitten after our summer vacation. Frankly, I was getting nervous about the "we'll think about getting a dog when you're ten" promise we'd made about a million times. Our lifestyle and home is just way more suited to a cat than to a dog. And believe me, before we even pulled out of the driveway from Hilton Head, Audrey was pressing us to keep our kitten promise! After we got home, we started looking online at different shelters, and more quickly than I thought (😳) we found some promising kitties at a shelter in New Hampshire. On Sunday, we drove up to meet Kiki and Lili...(two sisters who needed to be adopted together) and the kids loved them instantly!

We changed their names to Hermione and Luna. Hermione is the tabby, and the 'ringleader' between the two (just like her namesake, Hermione Granger). Luna is a little slower to warm up to us.

As soon as we got home, we made the rookie mistake of letting them have free reign of the house...so they promptly hid wherever they could. Under the couch, under the beds, who knows where they went! For a while they even went behind the washing machine, where no human sized person can reach! But we partitioned off the kitchen and then left to eat dinner and when we came back they were both snuggled together in the window sill. Crisis averted!

(And we quickly closed off the space behind the washing machine!)

They hung out in the kitchen for about a day and a half getting used to their new home (and us).

And they really seem to enjoy the entertainment we provided for them.

And now they are just part of the family!

They are lucky kitties, to have human sisters that just want to play with them all day!
