We drove to Scranton PA the first evening and then spent the whole of Saturday driving to New Haven. Katie and her baby bump was visiting from Chicago. And we finally got to meet David! We had plans to go to Mammoth Cave on Sunday but unfortunately due to the Eclipse Mania going on we didn't dare venture any further west in the state. Plan B was to go to Makers Mark. It was a pretty great Plan B.
We went mostly to see the Chihuly sculptures, but the whole campus had changed so much since our last time there, it was so beautiful!
And they have a legitimate tasting in an actual tasting room now, rather than just being offered a shot of bourbon in the dipping room like the last time we went!
(I still don't like bourbon but it was fun to taste the different varieties.)
(The Chihuly ceiling in one of the warehouses was amazing!)
(Grandfather didn't go to Makers Mark with us, but he still found the time to torture Audrey.)
Monday was Eclipse Day! We went out to the hollow to watch the eclipse. Bob put together an elaborate setup to take some photos. (We are now the proud owners of hundreds of blurry, semi-obstructed sun photos. :))
Eclipse Day at the hollow was a lot of fun. Lots of food, family AND doggies. It was a great day!
The light got strange and the temperature dropped noticeably, but it never got very dark.
(Who cares about an 97.5% eclipse when there are Twizzlers to eat!)
After the eclipse was over Aunt Beba and Uncle Kenny invited us on an ATV ride.
We drove right into the Rolling Fork River. Audrey loved skipping rocks.
On the way out of the hollow, we ran into these two yahoos.
It was a very lovely and memorable day. Tomorrow, we go the houseboat!
