After Bob came home from work and we got some takeout that inspired one child to decide that lamb is her new favorite meat while the other child decided to become a vegetarian from the inhumanity of it all! (The gyros were totally worth it though!).
Then we exchanged our presents.
Harry Potter scarf!
Art stuff for Audrey and a Carli Lloyd autobiography for Maddy. (I don't think Audrey even likes presents, it's so hard to tell what she's thinking.)
Friday morning we hit the road bright and early. Leaving on the 23rd didn't leave us much room for error to get to New Haven before Mass on Christmas Eve! Luckily it was a pretty smooth drive.
And the continental breakfast at the Hampton Inn was spectacular, as always.
We got to New Haven just in time for church. At least, some of us did.
One of us needed to test out the local healthcare. Unfortunately, Maddy had been fighting a cold for a while but she just kept getting sicker and sicker as we drove south. Luckily, we got her into an urgent care clinic in the last hour before they closed on Christmas Eve and we were able to get some antibiotics 30 seconds before the pharmacy closed. It was very dramatic!
By bedtime, Maddy had perked up quite a bit. Being excited for Santa probably helped.
For the first time we asked Santa to pay a visit in Kentucky rather than come early in Massachusetts. We weren't quite sure if he would remember how to get to Grandma and Grandfather's house, but luckily he did.
Maddy loved her "Max" stuffed animal.
And Audrey loved her "puppy surprise".
Before we got to open presents, we had to eat breakfast. (For kids who barely like to eat on a good day, this is torture!)
Presents....finally!
Kentucky apparel.
Mickey and Minnie Mouse pajamas.
More Kentucky apparel.
Hey, this is weird....more Mickey Mouse stuff, Christmas ornaments. Strange!
Hey, what a surprise...more Kentucky apparel!
Last present, Mickey Mouse ears...hmm? What, we're going to Disney World? So exciting! Right Audrey? How excited are you?
That's more like it! Thanks so much Grandma and Grandfather!
For Christmas dinner, we had a pretty small crowd this year. Uncle Robert and Aunt Sue came over to meet the "puppy surprise" (and probably because they wanted some priome rib too!)
And because our crowd was a little smaller this year, Bob and I finally escaped the kid's table. I think that may have been were the fun was though!
We had a wonderful dinner and an awesome day.
It was a very special Christmas!
