Holiday Weekend

We had a very nice long, Memorial Day weekend. The kids started it out right, by endearing themselves to all of our neighbors with a 9am water gun fight.

Then on Saturday afternoon, Bob and the kids visited Grammy and Grandpa in Taunton (while I got my annual Mother's Day/Birthday "day off".) I think they had a great time.

Apparently, they ran around in the sprinkler, ate tomatoes...

...made some new friends....

...and ate some ice cream with a creepy, zombie-like Elvis sculpture.

On Sunday, we decided to visit the Rogers Williams Zoo in search of some animals and some better weather. (Winthrop was literally 20 degrees colder (and cloudy) compared to sunny Rhode Island!)

We saw the elephants.

And the giraffes.

They had a new harbor seals exhibit and it was hard to keep the kids from jumping in the tank!

And finally there was every one's favorite exhibit, the Del's Frozen Lemonade cart.

On the way out of the park we stopped at the swan boats.

Maddy was my partner. She and I have a similar boating philosophies, we are cautious rule followers!

(Swan boat selfie.)

But Audrey and Bob are speed demons! (Well, as fast as demons can go when they are paddling in a giant swan anyway.)

On Monday, we didn't do too much. The weather was a bit miserable then in the late afternoon it cleared up and we decided to take a walk to the beach and try to fly some kites.

Maddy and Audrey employed two different strategies: Maddy liked to stay in one place and try to make the kite do all sorts of crazy maneuvers.

Audrey just took the kite and tried to make her own wind! I think she would have run to the water tower if we hadn't stopped her!

It was a great weekend!
