Christmas in Massachusetts

On the Saturday before Christmas, we had the Massachusetts side of the family over for Christmas. It's a lot of work, cooking for a crowd, but lucky for me I have a couple of great helpers. Who else would scrub potatoes without complaining?

The crowd was a little smaller than usual this year, so we could actually fit around the table.

And then the onslaught of presents began. Olaf was an instant favorite.

Uncle Kenny and (almost) Aunt Tricia gave the kids a teepee. I may have forgiven them by next Christmas. But probably not.

After the wrapping paper stopped flying, we chilled out for a bit and watched National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation.

It was great to get a chance to spend time with everyone.

Saturday night, the kids went to bed, crossed their fingers and hoped that Santa would come early (we made a special request in Maddy's letter to Santa.)

Whew! He got the letter.

Maddy got her only request...a Yellow Minion and a Purple Minion. If only they made her a little more excited.

Things got dicey for a moment, when Audrey thought that Santa had forgotten her one request....a tape measure. But luckily it was just in her stocking! She checked it out along with some cookie surveillance to see if Santa liked our cookies. Anecdotally, it seems that he liked the raspberry ones more than the cowboy cookies. He's probably right. They did turn out a little dry this year.

Maddy had the new Muppet movie in her stocking. To date, we've watched it about 400 times!

After Santa's presents were all discovered, it was time to rip into our other presents. Audrey was amazingly patient, for about 15 seconds.

Maddy loved the present that we were most excited to give her...

...her own Kindle. She's definitely inherited my love of reading.

Since she loves anything "cozy", the Winthrop sweatshirt was also hit.

And I think Audrey liked her new cash register, though sometimes she does remind me of Scrooge McDuck.

We had the whole day to relax, eat pancakes, enjoy our presents and each other before packing up. Tomorrow morning we hit the road for Kentucky!
