Maddy's school did an amazing art project this spring. Her art teacher teamed up with a local artist to create a new, permanent mural for the cafeteria. All the first and second graders did sketches on the theme of "Winthrop by the Sea", and the local artist, Yetti Frenkel designed a mural using the kids' sketches. Then over the course of a few weeks, in their art class, the kids and Yetti painted the mural. I had a chance to volunteer to paint with one class back in May. The adults outlined the figures and the kids filled in the color and the result was really whimsical and beautiful.
And Maddy was so proud of herself, and she knew the exact part where she painted.
The school had a ribbon cutting ceremony Friday night as part of the end-of-the-year ice cream social. And I guess "social" was the right word...Maddy was mobbed by her friends as soon as walked in.
On Saturday, we went to a gallery exhibition of all of the sketches that the kids did for the mural. Maddy drew a beach scene.
And then a trip to the park to celebrate our budding artist, who also happens to be a really good little-sister-swing-pusher.
