Pediatric Stroke Awareness Picnic

On Saturday we met a few other families in the Boston Public Garden to honor Pediatric Stroke Awareness month. It's a great chance to compare notes and catch up with other families. It's also a great time to reflect back on the year, and be grateful for all the wonderful progress Maddy has made in so many areas. She's reading! And swimming! And maintaining all those awesome skills she gained in Alabama last summer. And I hear (from her teachers and the notes from other students that keep coming home in her backpack) that she's got a pretty wicked sense of humor.

This year, the turnout was pretty small, only three other families. But it was nice to really get a chance to talk to everyone. And our good friends Amaia and Kai were there, so our kids were happy.

To say that Audrey was drawn to the newly spread mulch all over the Public Garden would be a huge understatement. She relocated it, rolled around in it, made mulch angels in it. At one point she rolled up her pant legs so she could rub to directly onto her skin. Other kids came up to her and asked advice about how to get the most amount of mulch in their own hair.

They all had so much fun, running around and feeding the ducks and playing T-ball. Unfortunately, Maddy didn't leave herself enough energy in the tank to get home, but I don't think Bob really minded giving her a lift.
