Birthday Weekend

We just had the a great birthday weekend! Grandma and Grandfather braved the terrible weather we've been having and squeezed in a visit between snowstorms.

When Grandma is around, she always gets talked into reading books at breakfast. I'm so glad that a mouthful of oatmeal doesn't stop Maddy from smiling.

On Friday, we had a busy day between school and appointments and Girl Scout cookie runs. So Saturday, we needed to spend most of the day getting ready for the party on Sunday. Audrey is always ready to take on the job of batter tasting.

On Saturday, being Maddy's actual birthday, we also gave the kids their birthday presents. Audrey got hers a little early. I mean, what good is a superhero cape for Maddy if her trusty sidekick doesn't have hers yet? Although, I fear that we may have created a monster, as Audrey did not want to take her cape off. With the color coordinated head bands, I'm not sure if they look like superheroes or John McEnroe, circa 1980.

We did take some time in the afternoon to go to the quilt show of a former therapist of Maddy's. It was great to catch up with Valerie, and her work was beautiful. This one was my favorite.

I feel inspired to finish the quilt I've been working on for 13 years!

While we were taking in some art, Bob and grandfather went and had a beer with Sam Adams. Then, in the evening, we all went for a birthday dinner at LaSiesta.

The birthday girl, "Maria" got to wear the birthday sombrero and be serenaded by the waiters. I was confused at first, that they seemed to get Maddy's name wrong, but the owner assured us that it wasn't a mistake...that "when you wear the sombrero you are either Maria or Pedro."

On Sunday we had some friends and family over for some noodles...

...and some cake. (I'm pretty proud of these two. Just don't look too closely at the sinkhole in the chocolate kermit!)

Unfortunately, when Audrey misses her nap time, even an Elmo cake covered in her favorite fruit is not terribly impressive to her.

And after the cake, there was the usual gift tsunami! They got lots of nice presents, great for all the snow days we'll surely be having before this long winter ends!

It was a great weekend!
