Cast

This week was the event that we'd been dreading ever since Audrey's orthopedic surgeon told us that her harness wasn't working....putting her in a spica (body) cast. Luckily, Grandma was able to come back up here to help us out while we get used to taking care of a baby in a cast (who needs to be diapered rather creatively!)

Audrey had one last bath before her twelve weeks of captivity (I already miss watching those little legs kick!)

Her casting had to happen in an operating room, under general anesthesia so we had to report to the hospital at 6 am. With Audrey not having any food since 10 pm the night before, Bob and I had prepared ourselves to entertain a very cranky baby. But Audrey was amazing during the two hours before the casting happened. She's a trooper just like her big sister. It didn't hurt that she developed an addiction to a pacifier dipped in sugar water that the nurses/pushers kept offering.

After Audrey was prepped and ready for the operating room, they sent us off to have some breakfast with the most awesome pager I've ever seen. I totally would have stolen it if it weren't bigger than Bob's head!

Everything went as good as it could and the CT scan later in the day showed that Audrey's casted hips are exactly where the doctor wants them, so now we just have to wait and see. Audrey will have her cast changed at least two times over the next twelve weeks, but this being the first time she had to be admitted to the hospital for overnight observation. Once we got to our room, she did a lot of sleeping. And crying. But who could blame her?

But by the next day, she was back to her regular self. It's amazing how quickly she adapted.

Audrey says, "Wish me luck! I want to be out of this getup in time to go to the houseboat!"

Good luck, cute little trooper!
