Slater Park

Despite the questionable weather, we decided to head down to Rhode Island to Slater Memorial Park today. Unfortunately, the "zoo" wasn't quite what Bob had remembered, but it was a fun for Maddy (and free!). The zoo had actually been torn down several years ago and replaced with a farm but I think animals are animals as far as Maddy is concerned. Besides, where else could we have seen a Nubian Goat (which looked suspiciously like a cow!) And the roosters were very active and very vocal.

At the farm, there were also some nice gardens to explore. We had to dart for cover a few times when it started to drizzle and we got a glimpse of what Maddy's going to be like as a teenager, when I asked her to say "cheese".

Ah, that's better.

By far, the highlight of the park was the century-old carousel. It was beautiful and FAST! And only 25 cents a ride!

Then we took a walk around the lake and let Maddy get in some sticking-throwing practice.

One more turn on the carousel and it was time to head home.

It was a great day!
