Christmas Vacation

Maddy and I took off for Kentucky last week, a few days before Christmas. The day started off well enough, but a cancelled flight and multiple delays later we were a little fried. (Bob came on Christmas Eve, with similar airline drama.)

During one of the delays we took a long walk around Reagan National airport and met up with Mr and Mrs Claus. Their flight was delayed too but they were in a little better humor than us.

Luckily, we only got to Kentucky a few hours later than we were supposed too, and had a whole week of fun ahead of us. Like driving a tractor with Aunt Katie...

...and catching up with friends...

...and picking some greens out of the garden.

Christmas morning, Maddy got to open another present or two (or fifteen). As usual, Uncle Patrick outdid himself. He's going to receive a very large package in the mail someday soon. (Please note the half size horse being ridden by a very chatty Cookie Monster.)

After presents, we took a little road trip to visit an old Masonic cemetery and take in some beautiful views.

After a nap, it was time to visit with some more family, including both great-grandmothers.

And Grandma had a huge Christmas dinner that night. Maddy, who had decided to do everything that her buddy Cody did, watched in horror as he ate a whole pile of kale greens. Gross!

The trip wouldn't have been complete without a trip to Bear Hollow.

But soon enough, it was time to head back to the airport and go home. Luckily, the trip home was completely without any trouble of the airline variety. However, this photo was taken a few minutes before Maddy threw a rock-star-worthy fit that would have made Axl Rose blush with embarrassment. Luckily, we all survived. Bob and I even decided to let Maddy come home with us.

Maddy says, "Happy New Year!"
