After a few turns around the barn, they went outside to get better acquainted.
Fritz doesn't like to feel like he's carrying a load while walking up hills so Maddy had to learn to stand up going uphill to help him out.
Maddy also learned how to ride sidesaddle, like the lady that she is!
At the end of the session, Maddy got a real treat....a trot around the barn!

Oh yay! It looked like she was having a ball.
Great pictures and video! I want to try hippotherapy with Bennett someday. We tried putting him on a pony this summer but he didn't care much for that so I think it will be awhile before we try a horse. Maddy looks like a natural and how very brave of her to get on such a big animal. I rode a horse for the first time when I was 17 and I was terrified!!
Barbara,
Maddy didn't really enjoy riding a pony either (at a carnival) but this was different somehow. We talked a lot about it beforehand so she would know what to expect. It turned out to be good timing since I think she was kind of burned out on her regular OT.
