Twenty-One Months Old!

Happy Twenty-One Month Birthday Maddy!

It's been a very exciting few months. Far and away, the biggest news is how far you've come with your walking. For weeks now, you've been able to walk around holding my hand but just recently you've started getting very brave. And yesterday, I left you in the living room to get something from the back of the house and you decided to sneak up on me. You negotiated toys and books and furniture and walked throughout the whole house all by yourself. I've never been so happy to be surprised in my life!

The second most important milestone of the last three months is that your hair requires blowdrying at night so you don't have to sleep with a wet head. I was worried that you wouldn't like the hairdryer, but I needn't have worried. After all, wind is one of your favorite things and what's a hairdryer if not manmade wind!

However, things aren't all rosy I'm afraid. About a month ago you figured out how to say "no" and our lives have not been the same since. "Do you want to get dressed?" NO! "Do you want to eat lunch?" NO! You're about 100% more challenging than you used to be but I still can't complain because you've always been extra-easy going.
And this new independence hasn't stopped us from having a really nice fall. Cranberry bogs, apple picking, pumpkins.....we did it all!

You really enjoyed Halloween. You didn't really understand what was going on, but you really liked it. Just wait until next year when we actually let you eat the candy!

And finally, last week you got to help your mom and dad vote in a historic presidential election. (By the way, you voted the straight-party ticket this year.)

You're still an avid book lover. Whenever I notice that things are a little too quiet and go to find what you're up to, I usually find you with your back up against your bookshelf, reading a book.

You're turning into quite the little lady, ponytails and all!
